The Challenge

The main challenge addressed by the Doing Business in Denmark course is the difficulty that international entrepreneurs face when trying to start and grow a business in Denmark. Despite Denmark’s strong entrepreneurial ecosystem and supportive business environment, many newcomers encounter significant barriers due to:

  • Limited understanding of the Danish business framework, including company types, taxation, and legal requirements.

  • Cultural and communication differences that affect networking, negotiation, and customer relations.

  • Difficulty accessing local networks and business communities, which are essential for partnerships, mentorship, and client acquisition.

  • Uncertainty about adapting business ideas to fit the Danish market, consumer behavior, and pricing expectations.

The Objective

The objective of the course is to bridge these gaps by providing participants with practical tools, local insights, and a structured roadmap for launching and sustaining a business in Denmark. The course aims to:

  1. Demystify the Danish business environment by explaining key legal, financial, and administrative processes in clear, accessible language.

  2. Build entrepreneurial competences in areas such as sales, marketing, business modelling, and financial management tailored to the Danish market.

  3. Foster meaningful networking opportunities among participants and with local professionals through structured group work and peer-to-peer learning.

  4. Empower participants to take action through the Action Lab sessions — applying concepts directly to their own business ideas and receiving feedback from peers and instructors.

  5. Support international talent retention by making it easier for newcomers to create self-employment opportunities and integrate economically into Danish society.

Key Achievements

The course’s success and impact have led to its adoption by multiple municipalities and business organisations, including Business Aalborg, Business Vejle, and Business Billund, which have invited AID to deliver the workshops in person in their respective regions. This expansion highlights the scalability and proven value of the Doing Business in Denmark model as an effective tool for supporting international entrepreneurship and integration in Denmark.

To extend learning beyond the classroom, AID has built a strong entrepreneurial support community around the course. This includes dedicated LinkedIn and WhatsApp groups, which serve as continuous networking and mentorship spaces. The International Entrepreneurs in Denmark LinkedIn group, now with over 500 members, connects like-minded professionals across the country, fostering collaboration and peer support. The exclusive WhatsApp alumni group, with around 200 active members, allows participants to seek advice, exchange experiences, and stay connected with both instructors and fellow entrepreneurs.
