Artificial Intelligence (AI) is often described as the technology that will define our future. But as algorithms quietly shape our daily routines, workspaces, and even our political debates, one question grows louder: who is shaping AI itself?
This October, a unique answer will come from Mühlhausen, Germany. From the 5th to the 11th of October 2025, young people from five countries — Austria, Bulgaria, Denmark, Germany, and Spain — will gather for the AI.Proof Youth Exchange: Skills, Community and Critical Thinking for the Age of AI.
Unlike the tech conferences that focus on coding breakthroughs or corporate applications, this exchange takes a different angle: what does AI mean for people, communities, and society at large?
Turning the Lens Around
The seven-day program isn’t about simply learning how to write prompts or generate images. Instead, participants will explore questions like:
- How does AI change the way we connect with each other?
- Can we use AI tools responsibly to strengthen communities rather than divide them?
- What risks do we face if we allow bias, inequality, or blind trust in algorithms to spread unchecked?
The approach is hands-on. Participants won’t just discuss problems — they will design initiatives, campaigns, and projects that apply AI in socially responsible and creative ways.
A Community of Ideas and Action
The Youth Exchange builds on the larger AI.Proof initiative, which brings together experts, podcasts, training tools, and public debates across Europe. But this German exchange stands apart: it’s not about experts speaking to young people. It’s about young people leading the conversation themselves.
Through non-formal learning, collaborative workshops, and even cultural exchange moments like “international coffee breaks,” participants will be challenged to connect AI with real-world issues: climate change, inequality, education, and the future of work.
As one of the organizers puts it: “We believe in the power of young people not just to adapt to AI but to shape it — to ask the uncomfortable questions and propose better solutions.”

Why It Matters Now
We are entering a decade where AI will transform the job market, governance, and the way societies function. Yet too often, young voices are left out of the conversation. By combining technology with community-driven dialogue, the AI.Proof Youth Exchange seeks to flip that script.
Mühlhausen — with its centuries-old history as a place of learning and reform — will become the backdrop for new visions of what AI could mean for humanity.
From Germany to Europe: A Growing Movement
The exchange is part of a broader European movement to make AI accessible, ethical, and empowering. Funded by the Erasmus+ Program of the European Union and the Kinder- und Jugendplan des Bundes (Germany), it shows how international collaboration can ensure that AI isn’t just in the hands of Silicon Valley — but also in the hands of young Europeans ready to imagine a fairer future.
The Takeaway
AI is not just about machines getting smarter. It’s about people — especially the next generation — asking smarter questions.
